A Greek Holiday for Every Budget: Low, Mid & Luxury

Budget: up to £600pp (7nts)

Getting to Greece

UK budget carriers like Ryanair and EasyJet offer great deals on flights to Greece.

To bag the very cheapest (potentially under £10 in some cases), you may need to be flexible about departure dates, departure airports and arrival airports.

Transport in Greece

If you plan to travel around the Greek islands, you'll find the country's ferry network is modern and convenient.

Ferry tickets are also relatively cheap by UK standards.

Greece also has an expansive coach network which is comfortable and low-cost.

Rail travel is possible but it's slow and the network is limited.

Cheapest food outlets in Greece

In Greece you can pay relatively high sums for meals if you eat in tourist areas. But find where the locals eat, and your pocket will thank you.

A gyros pita from a corner shop costs from 2.50 to 3.50 euros. Backstreet cafes also cost much less than seafront “tourist traps”.

Budget accommodation in Greece

The very cheapest accommodation is of course hostels; an Athens bunk bed costs as little as 13 euros.

A cheap guest house room starts at around 20 euros in the capital.

On islands like Corfu, the cheapest hotel rooms start at around 35 euros, rising quickly if you want something more luxurious. But even simple three-star hotels often have pools.

Package deals to Greece

If you don’t fancy the do-it-yourself approach, you can find some very affordable package deals - but you may need to be flexible as regards destination, hotel and departure airport.

At time of writing, there are 7-night self-catering deals on islands like Rhodes and Zante for a little over £200.

If you like the idea of exploring an area from a single base, this could be the most cost-effective option (and easier for families and groups). And of course, packages include flights, so that's another DIY cost removed.

Indeed, a package deal may well be cheaper than buying flights, accommodation and meals separately by yourself.

Example: Odysseus, Corfu (around £280pp inc flights, 7nts)

Located near Kavos' beach and the main strip, at the Odysseus you're right amidst the action.

Rooms are simple but come with handy kitchenettes. There’s free wifi and a 24 hour bar.

If you're planning to spend a lot of time exploring or on the beach, then the straightforward amenities of the Odysseus will meet your needs. It's a good example of what you can get with a smaller budget.

Mid-range Greek holiday: Up to £1000pp (7nts)

With a mid-range budget, the best option is to pay a little more for a package holiday.

If you wish to travel around Greece on a DIY-trip, you will of course be paying for ferries and coaches at the same prices as a budget traveller. But naturally, a mid-range hotel will be more comfortable and spacious than a budget one.

Getting there (self-planned trip to Greece)

If you want a little more comfort reaching Greece, choose a national carrier like British Airways or KLM.

They will generally cost more than Ryanair or EasyJet, but you'll get perks like snacks, more space and possibly better service.

Note that buying a budget carrier flight a day or two before you intend to fly may cost the same as a regular airline.

Mid-range package deals to Greece

Of course, if you choose a package deal you wont need to worry about booking a flight.

And if you have extra budget, you'll be able to choose from quality hotels in good locations, with perks like balcony views, larger pools, and all-inclusive meals.

With more money to spend, you can opt for seafront/prime location eateries with better views, and won’t need to hunt around for cheaper meals.

And with a bigger budget you can choose smaller, quieter adult-only hotels located near the beach, or bigger hotels with things like Kids Clubs and big pools, if you’re travelling with kids.

Mid-range example: Atlantica Beach Resort Kos (around £620pp, 7nts, inc flights)

The Atlantica is perched right by the waterfront and is a great base from which to explore Kos's south coast.

Newly renovated, the hotel features three pools and an onsite tennis centre with six courts.

Rooms feature sea views and balconies, free wifi and tea and coffee making facilities.

Accommodation with a pool with sea view in Santorini Greece

Big budget/luxury holidays to Greece: £2,500pp+ (7nts)

If you're in the market for a luxury stay in Greece, there are some wonderful five-star hotels to choose from.

With a large budget you can expect bigger rooms with more comforts like new furnishings and beds, wide balconies, access to infinity pools, and quality breakfasts included.

You'll also be able to choose from luxury adult-only hotels with perks like spas, as well as children-friendly establishments with features such as big, show-stopping waterparks.

Getting to Greece on a big budget

You can opt for hotel-only deals or packages that include flights. But if you're managing the flight yourself, with a bigger budget you'll be able to pay for a more comfortable trip.

For example, Business class with British Airways includes a guaranteed window or aisle seat; large baggage allowance; dedicated check-in; a contoured leather seat - plus meals and drinks.

Bigger holiday budget perks

From fine dining to luxury sailing tours, with a bigger budget you’ll be able to do more - and worry less about the cost.

Greece’s rich history and natural beauty will be at your fingertips.

Luxury example: Mitsis Alila Resort & Spa – All Inclusive (from around £150 per night, no flights included)

The five-star Mitsis Alila Resort & Spa in Rhodes island is a few minutes walk from beautiful Kallithea Beach.

It boasts large rooms with balconies, 2 outdoor pools, a children's pool, full-service spa, fitness centre, aerobic classes, concerts/live shows, 7 bars, 24-hour room services and included buffet breakfast.
