Amalfi Coast, Italy
Famous for its lemon-filled trees and rows of magnificent vineyards, we recommend spending at least three days to experience the best of what this Italia coastline has to offer.
A route from Sorrento features some iconic sweeping views, beautiful beaches, and myriad small quaint towns.
Here, the weather is usually pleasant all year round – and don’t forget, Capri is just a short ferry ride away.
If you’re looking for a spot of culture, visit the Roman town of Minori, which is packed full of ancient Roman villas.
North Coast 500, Scotland
Truly a jewel in Scotland’s crown, the NC500 brings together a route of 500 miles of beautiful costal scenery – as the name suggests.
To really take full advantage we’d recommend spending at least five days to make the most of the route, with the optimum time to visit thought to be between May - October, avoiding some of the more extreme weather conditions.
Inverness is a great place to start, with a great range of hotels and shops which you can use to prepare for your trip.
From beautiful castles to sandy beaches and highland walks, the NC500 has something for everyone. Loch Maree is a must see, often regarded as one of the most stunning lochs in Scotland, and be sure to stop at Victoria Falls - a magnificent 150-meter waterfall.
If you are feeling adventurous, why not explore the deep depths of the Smoo caves? A wee nip of the local distilled whiskey should help to calm the nerves...
The Adriatic Highway, Croatia
The Adriatic highway, which runs along the eastern coat of the Adriatic Sea, passes through three countries - Croatia, Bosnia, and Montenegro.
The route must be one of the most scenic drives on the planet, with magnificent old towns, beautiful harbours, and stunning beaches with crystal blue water.
Temperatures are ideal from May to September, usually ranging from 20-30°C, though August can be particularly busy - especially in some of the more popular towns.
If exploring historic towns is for you, why not visit the capital Dubrovnik? Wander around the castle ground, where the television show Game of Thrones was filmed. Or how about popping onto to a ferry to enjoy the surrounding islands?
The Adriatic highway is a 13-hour drive nonstop, but we’d recommend taking your time to enjoy this fantastic route.
Grossglockner High Alpine Road, Austria
The Grossglockner High Alpine Road is the highest surface mountain road in Austria. Surrounded by over 266 mountains and endless forests, lakes and beautiful waterfalls and rivers, there’s also around 250 glaciers to see.
There are multiple viewing platforms en route, where you can enjoy a 360-degree panoramic view of the 3,000-metre peaks.
Closed during the harshest months, the pass is usually open from early May to November.
You’ll need to purchase a day pass, costing around €30, but the views should be well worth the fee.
Of course, you could also combine your visit with a spot of snowboarding, mountain biking or climbing!
Great St Bernard Pass, Switzerland
Great St Bernard’s pass lies on the Italian Swiss border, east of Mont Blanc, in the southwestern Pennine alps. It’s probably the world’s most iconic mountain route, being the third highest road in Switzerland.
Like Grossglockner, the panoramic views make for an utterly breathtaking drive, and its also closed from September to May.
After a little trivia for your trip? This part of the world is famous for the St Bernard dog breed, which originated here centuries ago - originally bred for rescue work by the hospice of the Great St Bernard Pass.
