The Best Resort Hotels in Cairo + Budget Options

Posted on Wednesday, 25 October 2023

After a long day of exploring the Pyramids at Giza or the Egyptian Museum, you need somewhere comfortable to rest. Indeed, the ceaseless bustle of Cairo makes being able to relax and unwind doubly important.

In this article we look at three of the most luxurious hotels in the Egyptian capital, along with two amazing budget options - one of which has commanding views of the Pyramids!

Some of the following Cairo hotels feature extra special amenities such as landscaped pools, artificial beach areas, and Champagne bars - firmly placing them in the 'resort hotel' category.

St Regis Almasa Cairo

Featuring bedrooms and bathrooms "big enough to dance in", the St Regis Almasa was described as “a literal masterpiece” by one guest.

Among the many top-class amenities are an artificial beach area, a children's playground and super-luxurious clubhouse. There's also an indoor pool, a sauna, and a well-equipped fitness centre.

Previous guests have raved about the breakfast, while the in-house restaurant offers Italian, Middle Eastern, and international cuisine for later meals.

The hotel is also popular among business travellers, with a 42,000 sq ft convention centre - one of the largest in the Middle East.

One of the few downsides is the location - the St Regis is 59 km from the city centre, which can make sightseeing - and even food deliveries - a challenge.

Still, the St Regis is arguably one of the best 5-star hotels in Cairo.

Four Seasons Cairo

Featuring panoramic views of the River Nile, Four Seasons Cairo is one of the top hotels in Cairo.

Some rooms have private terraces where meals can be enjoyed, while others have sitting areas with sofas.

Alongside air-con and large flat screen TVs, rooms feature marble bathrooms, and include access to an outdoor landscaped pool area and various spa facilities.

Previous guests have praised the quality and variety of the breakfast, the highly attentive staff, and the attention to detail.

In terms of downsides, a number of reviews mention the decor being a little out of date, and the high cost - particularly of breakfast (which is extra). The softness of the pillows (or lack thereof) is also a theme!

Fairmont Nile City Cairo

The Fairmont Nile City is located in what is arguably one of Cairo's most impressive modern structures - a monolithic Art Deco-style double-towered building that oozes prestige and luxury.

The exterior opulence is reflected inside, with spacious rooms, a sauna, gym, rooftop pool and a varied breakfast that former guests rave about.

However, as with many 5-star hotels in Cairo, the breakfast is not included in the price.

The hotel features seven food and drinks outlets, including the rooftop Sky Pool and the Champagne Bar.

Recurrent positives in reviews include the views and the staff. On the downside, former guests often lament how busy the hotel is, and the stringent security checks to get in and out.

The hotel is 18km from the Pyramid Complex at Giza.

Sphinx and Pyramids Inn (budget choice in Giza)

At around £25 per night, the Sphinx and Pyramids Inn is at least 10 times cheaper than the previous three hotels!

And while this 3-star doesn't have the prestige and opulence of a 5-star, what it does have is incredible views of the Pyramids at Giza.

Not bad for a room with an aircon, flatscreen TV, fridge, and ensuite bathroom.

What's more, it has extremely high ratings, with former guests praising the staff, the cost, and the fact you get to enjoy the pyramid light show for free every night.

Best of all, perhaps, it's just a 7-minute walk to reach the Giza Pyramid Complex.

Ideal for a low-cost Cairo city break.

Garden City Plaza Hotel (budget city centre choice)

Another incredibly affordable hotel (by UK standards), is the Garden City Plaza Hotel - at about £45 per night.

The hotel's neighbourhood - Garden City - is one of the more upmarket, safer areas of Cairo, designed in the early 20th century and inspired by the English garden city movement.

It's ideally located for city centre explorations, just 1 km from Tahrir Square and 1.5 km from the Egyptian Museum.

Rooms feature the usual mod-cons: flatscreen TV, minibar, and ensuite bathroom.

But like many other Cairo hotels, breakfast costs extra.

The location and staff were recurring themes in positive reviews.
