5 Amazing Party Destinations for 2019

Posted on Monday, 25 March 2019

Sure, for a great party, you need great people (or at least party people) - but you also need a great destination (one that party people like, ideally). So without further ado, here are five party destinations either already inhabited by party people, or that tend to attract party people (or both!).

Song Kran, Thailand

Song Kran is the kind of festival that would have been banned long ago if it had originated in Europe. But in Thailand, this annual three-day water fight is deeply embedded in Thai history and culture. While it's easy to meet new people in Thailand any time, Song Kran is when you can literally pour a bucket of ice-cold water over a stranger and become bosom buddies. Town and city streets are lined with marquees under which friends and families gather around huge tubs of water and splash anyone and everyone. Meanwhile, Hiluxes cruise the streets with families riding in the back, squirting water pistols and tipping buckets over smiling faces. People of all ages turn out for this most unique of festivals.

Full Moon Party, Koh Phan Ngan, Thailand

For even more mayhem, you might try the monthly Full Moon Party on Koh Phan Ngan, where up to 40,000 people descend on beautiful Haad Rin beach and town. This world-famous beach party is not for the feint-hearted. Book your accommodation well in advance because it's as popular as ever. Pencil in a few days in a quieter part of the island - perhaps in a beach-side hut - so you can recuperate in true desert island fashion!

Kerfuffle, Otres Beach, Cambodia

Cambodia's answer to the Full Moon Party, Kerfuffle, outdoes its Thai rival in at least one way - by being held every week rather than every month. The party takes place in the jungle behind the idyllic and rather bohemian Otres Beach, which contrasts with Sihanoukville's more mainstream Ocheteal beach, just down the road. With circus acts, carnival rides and top-name DJs, Kerfuffle is sure to become even more popular in the coming years. During the day, Otres Beach is a wonderful place to chill out, especially after a $5 massage and with a bargain-priced cocktail in your hand.

OKTOBERFEST, Munich, Germany

If you're something of a beer connoisseur and you haven't been to Oktoberfest, perhaps now is a sensible time to start planning a visit? Of course, there's nothing sensible about the event itself, which is typified by gigantic beers and very silly trousers. You're sure to sing and dance with folks from all over the world at this vast and unforgeable shindig.

Sparty Bath Party, Budapest, Hungary

If you love both techno and thermal baths, then Sparty Bath Party is for you. Even if you're not too keen on techno music, the hot, healing waters will appeal. Add affordable imbibes, colourful laser beams and a wonderfully friendly atmosphere and you have a fun - not to mention highly Instagrammable - party!
