The secret club: 7 celebrities you never knew played golf

Posted on 08 August 2018

In a world of Fake News, there's nothing more comforting than a good old-fashioned round of golf - just ask Donald Trump. Among other things, the POTUS loves to swing a club around - although after the heckling he received during his last game, he would probably have preferred to hide out in a bunker - of any sort.

Historically, golf has been the preserve of well-heeled gents intent on deal-making or relaxation, but there are a number of hip young(ish) celebrities who also enjoy a good bogey or two.

Here are seven of them that you didn't know about. Probably.

Céline Dion

When she's not writing songs about doomed love on poorly designed ocean-liners, Celine Dion is often found sinking golf balls - either on her own Montreal course, or at celebrity golf tournaments. She even has her own personalised golf buggy.

Snoop Dogg

Edgy rapper he may be, but Snoop Dogg loves nothing more than slipping on his golf brogues and dropping a few Titleists - yes, like they're hot.

Meat Loaf

No, 'Objects in the Rear View Mirror (May Appear Closer Than They Are)' was not written about stray golf balls, but as Meat Loaf has matured, golf has become a passion for him.

Fred Durst

When the Limp Bizkit frontman is not penning furious rock anthems for the nu-metal moshpit, he's out in the fresh air, putting on his local golf course. If we didn't know the inspiration for 'Rollin' before, we do now.

Kendrick Lamar

When he's not being more-or-less immediately out of Compton like his N.W.A. compatriots, or when he's tired of writing 'diss tracks' - whatever they are - Kendrick Lamar is playing golf. However, the Californian rapper may need some pointers on the rules, because he often tees-off from the roofs of Cadillacs.

Ant and Dec

While they may need to improve their drive at times, the "I'm a Celebrity..." frontmen do love a round of golf. "Last one back to the 19th hole has to put their head in a jar of centipedes!"

Justin Timberlake

To the casual observer, Timberlake's discography is all about golf: We've got water hazards (Cry Me A River), being stuck in the rough (Man in the Woods) and forgetting what colour your golfball is (True Color). But they aren't about golf really. However, our Justin does have a handicap of six.
