10 Useful Packing Tips - from Celebrities
Are you a packing amateur? Does packing leave you all of a tiz? Check out these useful packing tips from the world's celebrity jet-set.
Pack for joy, says Marie Kondo
Marie Kondo is a famous "organising consultant" and author from Japan. Among her various packing tips are: "Start by packing items that spark joy". No, we don't think she means a packet of Stilton and a bottle of HP Sauce! But seriously, listen to Marie Kondo, when it comes to packing, she could write a book about it (actually, she already has).
Gwennie says pack interchangeable pieces
On her website Goop, Gwyneth Paltrow offered this carry-on packing nugget: "Over the years, I have gotten really good (if I do say so myself) at packing for trips without checking luggage. The trick is to think it through before you go, pack key interchangeable pieces, and to not be afraid to wash clothes at the hotel."
Roll or flat pack?
Trinny (from Trinny and Susannah) has made a lot of packing tip videos, each laden with useful pointers for packing amateurs. Trinny decides what she plans to wear each day she is away. She also packs her favourite items first, which, since they are at the bottom of the suitcase, "forces her to compromise" and wear something different. Interestingly, Trinny doesn't do the "roller type packing" - she does the "flat type packing".
Decant!
Trinny also recommends buying a 'decanting' pack which allows you to transfer shampoos and lotions into small bottles - so you can get through security without losing your prized toiletries and cosmetics.
Meghan Markle and tea tree oil
Speaking to Allure, Prince Harry's other half said: "The one thing that I cannot live without when I'm travelling is a small container of tea tree oil. It's not the most glamorous thing, but if you get a cut, a mosquito bite, a small breakout, no matter what it is, it's my little cure-all. It's inexpensive, it's small enough to carry on, and I bring it with me all the time."
Eva Longoria and long socks
The Desperate Housewives star said: "I get so cold on planes, so I bring some comfy, big socks that keep my feet warm and also act as a barrier to all the disgusting things on the floor."
Victoria Beckham and silk crepe shirts
Creasing is one of the main enemies of today's traveller, but VB has a solution: pack lots of silk crepe shirts, since they don't crease at all.
Julia Stiles: bubble wrap toiletries
Bourne Identity star Julia Stiles told Travel and Leisure she bubble wraps her toiletries to prevent any spillages while in mid-air.
Kim Kardashian: bag each item
Following on from the ‘spillage-fear' angle, Kim Kardashian says she bags each item of clothing. This way, none of her designer gear will be ruined in the event of a spillage. We think she could have saved a lot of time by copying Julia Stiles and only bagging the toiletries - since they present the risk.
Christina Applegate: unpack as soon as you check in
By unpacking all your clothes as soon as you arrive at your hotel, you'll avoid having to 'rummage around' in the morning - and planning outfits will be much easier.
