8 Alpine Ski Resorts with Short Transfer Times

Posted on Friday, 14 December 2018

Reaching an airport close to an Alpine ski resort can take as little as two hours from the UK, but a quick flight doesn't mean you'll be hitting the slopes very soon afterwards. As many skiers and snowboarders have found to their dismay, transfer times from airports to resorts can add many hours to a trip - and in some cases days!

So, while likelihood of snow, price and length of pistes are all important factors when choosing a ski resort, so too is the time it will take to reach after landing.

Below are a list of Alpine ski resorts with short transfer times.

INNSBRUCK

Nordkette - 45 minutes

Nordkette offers one of the shortest transfer times in the Alps, since it overlooks Innsbruck below. Hop on the funicular and in just 20 minutes you'll be among the peaks. Steep pistes and a top-notch snowpark make this resort ideal for advanced skiers and snowboarders.

St Anton Am Arlberg - 90 Minutes

A high-speed train can take you the 100km from Innsbruck airport to St Anton Am Arlberg - in just an hour. Expect fast lifts, a superb night-life and wonderful off-piste action.

GENEVA

Chamonix – 60 Minutes

It takes just an hour to reach Chamonix from Geneva Airport by road. The town also boasts a train station so you can hop over to nearby Italian resorts should the fancy take you. Chamonix, with its steep pistes, is perfect for those seeking extreme skiing.

Morzine – 90 Minutes

Morzine, located at a not-too-extreme 1000m, is a short trip by road from Geneva Airport. Part of the Portes du Soleil ski area, this resort is ideal for beginners and intermediates (particularly compared to Chamonix).

ZURICH

Engelberg - 60 Minutes

Engleberg is a pleasant mix of old Victorian hotels and classic Alpine chalets and is just an hour from Zurich Airport. Expect guaranteed snow on the high glacier run and stupendous mountain scenery dominated by the 3,000m Mount Titlis. The resort even features an igloo hotel.

VENICE & TREVISO

Alleghe Civetta - 90 Minutes

This affordable lakeside town is considered the gateway to the Dolomites and the perfect place for a family ski break. Incredible scenery and an uncrowded feel make Alleghe Civetta an all-round winner, further improved with a single pass that covers all lifts in the Dolomiti SuperSki area.

If you're bored of the immense Les Trois Vallee, you're probably bored of skiing - because there's a lot to be had in this giant linked ski area. Meribel and St Martin de Belleville are the quickest to reach from Chambery Airport. Expect fast lifts, lots of slopes and unrivalled apres ski fun once the sun goes down.

GRENOBLE

Les Deux Alpes - 90 Minutes

Whether you're just starting out or you've been doing the circuits for years, you're sure to find the perfect ski slope at Les Deux Alpes. Lots of intermediate slopes for families, with a variety of terrain parks for snowboarders and freestyle skiers.
