5 Must-Have Winter Travel Gadgets

Posted on Wednesday, 14 November 2018

From smartphone gloves with conductive fingerprints, to hotel room air purifiers and waterproof e-readers - these items will make your winter travels extra memorable.

OK, the following items aren't exactly must-haves - because you'll still probably have enjoyable winter travels if you don't buy them. But they will certainly make your holidays easier, more rewarding or more fun. And with Black Friday on the horizon, now could be a great time to get some ideas for your winter travel shopping list.

Knitted Touchscreen Gloves

This one is ideal for those chilly days when you want to use your smartphone while out and about, but, equally, don't want to get frost bite while doing so! A pair of knitted touch-screen gloves provides an effective solution. They feature conductive fingertips so you can browse, check emails and social media while on the move. A variety of touch-screen gloves are available.

Portable Air Purifier

If you're staying in or passing through a large city this winter, you may find the air quality to be sub-par - particularly if you're heading to Asia to escape the wintry weather. Help minimise the impact of polluted air by investing in a portable air purifier from a firm like The Pure Company. Some products also boast an aromatherapy feature so you can scent the air - perfect if your hotel room smells of cigarette smoke or dampness.

Kindle Oasis

If you already own a Paperwhite Kindle, or an e-reader from another brand, then buying a Kindle Oasis might not be worth the extra cost (from £229). However, book lovers have been bowled over by Oasis' features: it has a larger screen than the previous Oasis, it's lightweight, and offers Bluetooth connectivity so you can listen to Audible audio books. It's also waterproof, so you needn't worry about it getting rained on (or snowed on) - or dropping it in the pool!

Moleskine Pen+ Ellipse

If you love taking notes, writing down plans, doodling, or keeping a diary while on holiday, then the Moleskine Pen+ Ellipse could be for you. It brings note-taking firmly into the 21st century because every mark you make is automatically recorded digitally, so you'll always have a back-up of your precious notes. The pen writes like a regular one, but features an infra-red camera that records your marks by 'seeing' tiny dots on the page.

Portable Travel Steamer

Need to look smart after a long layover? A portable travel steamer could help. Rowenta's latest travel steamer, for instance, heats up in a mere 45 seconds, making it easy to spruce up your clothing in a jiffy. It's compact and lightweight, so can be easily transported in your carry-on luggage.
